In late February and early March 2013 Betty and I and a group of others paddled seven open Canadian canoes down nearly sixty miles of the Whanganui River, North Island, New Zealand. No roads, no habitation, no cell phones- just the beautiful river set between high banks covered in native bush and camping along the way. The canoes were loaded with tents, mattresses, sleeping bags, cooking pots and food and drink for 14 people for five days. An unforgettable journey.
Unusually, these photos are not all mine, I have taken the liberty of borrowing some from fellow paddlers. Thanks to Helen Fraser, Jamie Anderson and Jonathon Pascoe.
